During our grappling sessions I would bet that I spend more time in my instructor Morgan’s side control than any other position.

Like I’ve previously stated I almost always get passed, but I typically have around 5 or so seconds before Morgan transitions to the mount or goes North-South on me.

That begs the question-if you or I have 5 seconds to escape from side control, what are some options?

Two Basic Side Control Escapes

In the corresponding video Morgan will demonstrate two escapes:

  • Up and over
  • Side out

Tell me what side control escape you like to use. I’d love to hear your responses. Visit our College of Jiu Jitsu Forum to post or log in and comment below.
