When I transition into mount I’m usually thinking, “ok, now what?” Being a novice, my MMA instructor Morgan, drills position over and over again. Which is great because I wouldn’t want to get ahead of myself, but it’d be nice to know a mount submission or two so at least I could attempt to apply them.
6 High Percentage Mount Submissions
From what I’ve been able to gather these 6 mount submissions are the ones that you are more likely to use and more likely finish with from the mount position.
And let’s not forget that if we’re competing in an MMA event most prefer to rain down strikes from mount before they do anything else, and that more often than not will be your most practical option to end it all.
In the event that strikes aren’t an option, or a submission from mount presents itself to you—here are 6 high percentage subs:
- Ezekiel Choke
- Cross Choke (with Gi)
- Triangle
- Arm Triangle
- Armbar
- Americana
10 More Mount Submissions You May Not Have Heard Of
If you haven’t heard of some of these don’t worry because I haven’t heard of some either—let alone logged time on the mat with them:
- Cobra Clutch
- Elbow Press
- Bull Fighter (I want to learn this one so I can say I submitted someone with the “Bull Fighter.” It just sounds cool.)
- Guillotine
- Kimura
- Slo-Triangle
- Gift Wrap
- Gogoplata
- Monoplata
- Front Naked Choke
I know there are more mount submissions so when you have one to mention just log-in and add it to the comments below.
My intention was to compile a list and not to expound on each mount submission, but don’t worry I’ll make my way through the list detailing each in separate posts.
