Mark "The Hammer" Coleman

LOS ANGELES — When asked what the fondest memory of his nearly 13-year mixed martial arts career is, Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer Mark “The Hammer” Coleman replies with silence. It’s almost as if his entire career is flashing before him.

Regarded as the pioneer of ground-and-pound fighting, he won UFC X and XI tournaments, was the organization’s first-ever heavyweigh… (Read more)

Two Basic Side Control Escapes

During our grappling sessions I would bet that I spend more time in my instructor Morgan’s side control than any other position.

Like I’ve previously stated I almost always get passed, but I typically have around 5 or so seconds before Morgan transitions to the mount or goes North-South on me.

Taking into account the fact that the fight will be 25 minutes, I believe that St. Pierre has more chances, because he is a better athlete, but, technically speaking, I believe that BJ Penn is more complete because he is best… (Read more)

Hughes vs. Serra at UFC 98

By Matt Scott (January 11, 2009)
Posted in MMA Blog

According to Matt Hughes’ website:

“Just got a call from Joe Silva and as of right now it looks like I’ll be fighting Matt Serra in Vegas on May 23rd. This is not 100% confirmed, but I believe it is going to be on this date.”

This is good news, for a fight that has been extremely delayed, and that many fans hopefully still want to see.

Is the fight against Thales Leites in UFC 97? How do you think it will be?
I don’t know yet, but I think that it’ll be against him. I don’t know, it’s hard to say. Fight is fight, there’s no way to say how it’ll be, I just have to train. He’ll have the opportunity to fight for the belt, I hope that he’s training well, because we’re too… To fight against a Brazilian is always complicated, even because is a title fight, but it’s … (Read more)
